Meat Deception at the Grocery Store?!

Question:

Meat Deception at the Grocery Store?

Have you ever found after buying a nice looking piece of meat at the grocery store that when you came home and opened the package, that on the hidden side of the meat it was polstered with large slobs of fat which you had to cut away in order to protect the health of you family?

Answers:
Yep, after many years of that we've started buying all our meat at the local butcher shop. Butcher's are in business for themselves and care about their reputations and their patrons. If they don't sell quality, they'll lose customers. Good service and happy customers brings more customers by word of mouth advertising.

You'll also never find the following message on a package of ground beef from the butcher..."contains some fresh and previously frozen parts". But look closely at what you're getting from the grocery store, it's not uncommon. I don't know how they get away with that. "previously frozen parts"...so it's been defrosted, ground up, added to fresh meat and packaged, then someone is likely to buy it and bring it home to be stored in their freezer....Oy vey!

yes, unfortunately i too have been deceived by the grocery's butchers.

Oh yes, that is why I treat the butcher with so much respect. He is my buddy now and always finds me the best cuts even if he has to go back and pull out the whole slab just to give me center cut top sirloin. (yum). Also, check out the prices. They are about the same and if the butcher is selling for a wee bit more at least you can see both sides.

Yes I have had a similar experience so I now get them to pack the pieces I point to at the deli counter.

Yes, I have and it ticks me off. I do feel like I had been deceived. If it's excessively fatty, I'd wrap it right back up and take it back and exchange it for one that was leaner. Most grocery stores have a pretty lenient return policy if you are not a satisfied customer and maybe the manager will thank you for bringing this to their attention, the meat cutter isn't doing a very good job.
