real mangoes should never be green. they should be a beautiful not-too-pale yellow. they taste sweet yet are firmly gelatinous and the best way to eat it is to hold the bottom with one hand and then pinch the skin on top until it breaks and then unravel the mango and just chomp and slurp our way around it until the seed's all that's left. go guimaras mangoes!
indian mangoes rock too. they're much smaller mangoes, somewhere between a tennis ball and a softball. they're green on the outside but pale yellow on the inside and they're sour but slightly sweet if you get them ripe. you peel them then slice them up into medium-size pieces. they're firm and you bite into them with an imperceptible crunch. heaven. if they aren't ripe, break out the soy sauce and salt and start dipping!
Big (even giant) or small... I love them all. It's probably my favorite fruit. Juicy and messy - that's how I like 'em!
Where I live, they grow wildly... I have tasted many varieties (small, round, elongated, green outside and ripe inside).... Specially when you cut them up in cubes and have them with whipped cream..!!!! Yummmy, super yummy....
try this: peel one riped mango and combine it with pickles and blend it by a blender that has rock salts with it.. what do you think?!?!
I like the one that is completely dry. The skin is green (not orange or any other color) and inside is light yellow. I think that's the best.
Someone I met in Europe who used to work in a fruit market in Oslo told me about Pakistani mangoes. He said they were amazing and the workers would smoosh them up without cutting them, then tear off the top of the skin and suck out the pulp like a smoothie.
I have yet to try it.
Personally, I prefer the big green ones with the orange flesh inside.
Ripe ones are great to eat on a warm sunny day (or whenever). They also make a great base for salsa. Just add tomatoes, cilantro, cumin, and white & black pepper... serve over black beans. Yummy!!
The best mangoes are Alphonso mangoes from India. They were initially banned here in the US since 17 years but starting this year from 01st May 2007, they stopped the ban and started the shipment again. You can find it in any indian store (not sure if the other grocery stores carry them). But they are the best. You hv to eat them to believe.
i've tried quite a few different varieties of mangoes, but i do have a particular fav and that's the sweet & sour variety from thailand.
try the ones that are being grown in ILOILO, Philippines they are the sweetest of all the variety i have ever tasted....
