Is bread good for your health?!

Question:

Is bread good for your health?

Answers:
NO.

And there is no way to be sure that it is whole grain. By law--at least it was this way as of 2 years ago--there need only be a pinch of 'whole grain' stuff in the bread for a manufacturer/baker to be able to legally label it as whole grain bread.

depends on what kind and how much you are eating - too much of even a good thing is bad.

Make sure it's whole grain.

whole wheat bread, but it is also full of carbs so you don't want too much of it.

The daily recommended servings for breads and cereals is 8-12 servings, I believe. (However, one piece of bread = 1 serving! Also, a typical bowl of cereal = 2 servings!) Whole wheat breads and grains are better for you than the white breads that we Americans like, however.

The USDA has a website that tells you how much servings of each food group you should have--it personalizes a plan for you. http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index...

For some reason or other, white bread is not actually very healthy.

PS. A lot of thumbs-downers tonight!

yes...especially whole wheat and whole grain....provides lots of nutrients, and minerals that are essential for us...

yes but a seeded or whole grain bread but not too much.

But stay away from white

it's a heavy complex carb and is essential in your diet but eat it in moderation as it can really pack on the pounds.

If it's whole grain (and not made with high fructose corn syrup)...not whole wheat, whole wheat bread is not good for you, it's very similar to white. White bread is like eating a candy bar...loads of sugar!

people having been eating it for for like thousands of years.. that would suggest to me it cant be that bad.

Maybe wheat or multigrain, but any others are just fattening. They are one of the four food groups tho, so I would say yes.

Sure, whole grains are an important part of a healthy and complete diet. Not to mention that it's the largest 'step' of the food pyramid!

Fresh home made bread is very good for you. Mass produced bread has much of the good oils taken out to stop it from going mouldy and hard quickly. However, it's still not bad. Carbs aren't bad for us, despite what the diet freaks say.

Whole grain bread is good for you and 2 slices a day along
w/a healthy diet will do the body good!

YES! Choose whole wheat varieties.

Yes.it is good for your health

White bread has no nutritional value whatsoever. Brown and grains are good for fibre. Like anything though if you eat a large portion of bread it will make you fat, and if you eat in moderation you can eat anything. But with white bread, you might as well eat cardboard.

NO B-CUZ U CAN GET CONSTIPATED B-LIVE ME I KNOW

Most european type breads are very good for you. White bread is not. Wheat bread is better, but not when you eat too much of it. Find a mediteranian type bakery and try some of the dark breads. They are good for you.

Well, being as how every single society and civilization dating back to the cavemen have been eating bread of some kind for thousands and thousands of years, it can't be all that bad for you.
