How far in advance do you plan your meals?
Answers:
Sometimes 3 weeks, most of the time about 8 hours. I wake up in the morning and my first thought is "What's for dinner?"
about 40 seconds before I start cooking...whatever is in the fridge or freezer.
maybe a day
Depends what I am working. If on a long day I get something sorted out the day before. If on a rest day 2 seconds before I want something to eat. If people coming round about a couple of days as people sooooo fussy about what they eat now!
I never plan.
I love going to the shop/supermarket everyday and seeing what they have that is local, seasonal and fresh then as i'm walking round I think of what I can make with the ingredients.
Brilliant way to be creative and not necessarily more expensive because seasonal food is generally cheaper due to it's abundance.
Can't imagine it's be all the practical for a large family though.
A week, when I do the weekly shopping! I know, I need to get a life, but I do. I wander around the supermarket with recipes in my head, get the ingredients, and I have the whole week done. I don't say to myself, oh, this will do Monday, that Tuesday, well sometimes I do if I buy say, fish and I want to use it fresh. See, I'm sad or organised, one or the other.
Every Sunday we plan what to have for dinner everyday of the week, then we buy it at the store.
i never know watever it may be i gt to eat thats it i don waste time by planning it! ,... ....
Depends what the children want and how hungry everyone is. If I remember I plan a day ahead if not its usually ifits lol
maybe a day
i would very rarely plan a meal like today don't know what I'm going to have I'm sure i will think of something
I start most often in the morning thinking what I will have for supper, but if I am out and see something I like the look of I then I will plan it as I go.
I might see some nice chicken, or a pork spare rib chop or something, think what I already have that I fancy using, or add something to the store as I go along. Rarely have disasters.
A day or mabye 2
At home, generally about a week ahead. I keep a record of everything that goes into my freezers - name of commodity, date purchased, use by date and which freezer it is in. I can then see what is getting near use by dates and plan accordingly.
I cook everything from fresh or frozen, and occasionally the tin (tomatoes) and I only keep a few packs of convenience food for my partner to heat up if I am away or ill. She cannot cook at all.
I can still do quick meals if need be. I buy up rump steak from the supermarket when it is on offer, slice it and freeze it - this can be stir-fried from frozen. My butcher makes up a lot of things like tournedos and noisettes of lamb for functions in local hotels, and if he has any left over, he sells them to me cheap. I make rissoles from mince beef, crab meat or potatoes, matzo meal and spices. All these can be cooked from frozen.
If you are cooking for a family one must make a list of everones favourite meals, so that you only have to cook one dish that suits all. Do allow your kids the odd junk meal - once a week. I know the food is rubbish but they will be ribbed and possibly bullied if they are not up to date with kiddiegrub. Fact of life, I'm afraid.
It all depends on which street I'm driving at the time. If I'm on Lindbergh Blvd. it's usually White Castle... and if I'm on Natural Bridge, it's McDonalds.
Note: That's when my 6-year-old grandson is with me.
However... if I'm alone... it's... "Hooters"... heh, heh, heh... for their chicken wings... riiiiiigghhtt!
