Question:

Why is french toast and fries called french?

Concidering they were invented in buffalo NY.

Answers:
Frenching refers to the method in which they are cooked, not the country where they were invented.

why not ask why they're called buffalo wings? Buffalo don't fly. :-)

Perhaps named after the people who first created these tasty foods?

The name "French toast" is attested to be from English soldiers serving on campaign in France during the 100 Year War who, upon being provided rations consisting solely stale bread and tea combined the ingredients to make it more palatable. The precise origins of the recipe are unknown, but similar dishes have existed in many countries and under many names. It is attested in Medieval Europe under the names:

* England: suppe dorate (Italian for "gilded sippets")
* France: pain perdu (literally, "lost bread")
* Germany: armer Ritter (literally, "poor knight")
* Yugoslavia and successor republics: прженице - pr?enice

cause the frenchmen brought them to america

the method in witch they r cooked i think....

First they were not invented in Buffalo........and the term was used as to how they were prepared......by frying.. French toast was a way the french prepared old bread to make it edible both of these where invented 100's of years ago.....

French street vendors used to sell fried potatoes in strips. Also, french toast is traditionally made by dipping stale bread in a custard - cream mixed with eggs, which is sort of a french thing. Ever hear of French vanilla? It's icream that includes eggs yolks, or at least the original home made kind did.

Culinary historians disagree over whether French toast has exclusively Gallic roots. The simple concoction of bread, eggs, and milk likely dates back to Medieval times, when the battering process was used to make stale loaves more palatable. (Taken from the first Link listed below.)

"...in the 1840s, pomme frites ("fried potatoes") first appeared in Paris. Sadly, we don't know the name of the ingenious chef who first sliced the potato into long slender pieces and fried them. But they were immediately popular, and were sold on the streets of Paris by push-cart vendors.

Frites spread to America where they were called French fried potatoes. You asked how they got their name--pretty obvious, I'd say: they came from France, and they were fried potatoes, so they were called "French fried potatoes." The name was shortened to "french fries" in the 1930s." (Taken from the second Link listed below which gives a total history of how the french fry got it's name.)
