Expiration date on bottle water?!

Question:

Expiration date on bottle water?

Why do they have expiration date on bottle water? I know it is for FDA reason but water bottle don't last that long in store shelfs. Water can't spoil! Has anyone drink bottle water after the expiration date? Did it lose its value in taste or does it taste like tap water...LOL ?

Answers:
Ok the reason is due to 2 factors. Taste and safety. To debunk some of the previous answers: Bottled water is not "alive" it has in MOST cases been put through a process called reverse osmosis(RO). This is a filtration/softening method that removes both inorganic and organic contaminants of the water like iron and calcium and bacteria. The wiki discussion that was linked does not apply to drinking water production.
However, water will go stale. Direct sunlight and temperature changes will cause taste and possibly even odor to come out of the water. The tastes and odors are from minerals in the water that RO can not remove. The water is still safe, but what seller of expensive water will want that smelly, dirty tasting water on the shelves?
As stated earlier not all organics can be removed. Also boiling, chlorination, and even acidizing the water can't kill an organism called cryptosporidum 100% of the time. Ozone and UV disinfection are the most effective at this. Most bottled water is subjected to UV(ultra violet) disinfection, but the crypto could still be active after a certain time they would want to remove the water from the shelf to make sure it is safe.

One more thing. The idea that plastic bottles can leech chemicals into the water that can cause cancer has been proven false. Those chemicals are in the plastic but to get them to leech out the plastic has to be heated to well over 1200 degrees Farhenheit.

hummm never thought about that im giving u a star

actualy it can lose its nutritional value

It has to do with the bottle, not the water. After the while the plastic starts to break down and get into the water causing things to happen to you.

bacteria can enter the bottles

I'm looking at my water bottle right now, and can not find an expiration date on it...I do believe it would be different if it were flavored water though?

Water can't 'spoil' but it can 'go stale' and that is why there is an 'expiration date' on bottled water. If you drink it after the expiration date, you'll see that it actually 'tastes stale' as if it has been 'sitting too long' ... water is 'alive' and needs to 'move' to stay that way ... bottled water is 'dead' and can go stale. Weird, but true.

water is water nothing will happen to you if you drink water with the expiration date past.

And I think that the plastic contaminates the water therefore making it lose taste as well as making it a possible risk.

yes but it loses its characteristics
