Is this how meat should look?
Is uncooked ground beef supposed to have dark brown/greyish colored parts on it????
Answers:
The discoloration happens sometimes, simply due to exposure to air and light. As long as the freshness date is fine, and the beef smells fine, it is usually plenty safe to use!
Umm.. okay.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be pink-ish/red.
Don't eat it.
It sure could on the outside but if it's still red inside, you're fine. The air got to it. No biggie, give it a good sniff and you'll know.
I don't think so. I think that means it is bad or rotten. Don't eat it, just to be sure.
ive had some in the freezer for like a year lol and i didnt die when i made somethin w/ it just make sure you cook it fully to get all the bacteria out and keep it frozen til youre ready to cook it if it was in the fridge then.........................n... reccomended
nope. if it is fresh, it should be red. if it doesn't have any stink to it and if the grey and brown are just on the surface and the inside is red, it is okay.
If it stinks or is funky color inside - throw it away.
The reason the outside of the ground beef got grey/brown is because it was exposed to oxygen. A day or two isn't a problem. A week or two is no darn good.
even w/o the beef manufacturer's red dye to make it more attractive in the packaging, i don't think it should have brown and gray on it. It should not smell either. When in doubt, throw it out!!
Yes, it is fine, the oxygen, and lack thereof, is what changes the colors. Try spreading it out for a bit, and it will turn back red. As long as there is no odor, or "sliminess", I would guess it is fine.
as long as the meat still smells okay and it's not past the "use by" date, it should be fine. meat counters/bunkers have certain lights that help to keep the meat looking bright and fresh...so it just means that it isn't under those lights anymore. but by all means, make sure it smells alright, and if it doesn't, then take it back to the store and get your money back.
Don't eat gray meat. Period!
