Question:

What is fasting?

I don't really understand what it means, is it like going tottally without food, or are you allowed some?

Answers:
fasting is when your dont eat or drink for a certain period of time. you don't eat anything. it's kinda like showing your devotion to God, but it's not an eating disorder, or anything like that.
jews fast on yom kippur
muslims fast on ramadan

Depending you are right both ways
Some times u can eat little
Others you cant eat at all

A fast is when you do not eat at all, this includes liquids like soft drinks which contain sugar.

Fasting is primarily the act of willingly abstaining from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. Concerning that from which one fasts, and the period of fasting, a fast may be total or partial. It may be observed unbroken for many uninterrupted days, or be observed only for certain periods during the day, as is the Muslim practice during the holy month of Ramadan. Depending on the tradition, fasting practices may forbid sexual activity as well as food, in addition to refraining from eating certain types or groups of foods; for example, meat may be refrained from. Medical fasting can be a way to promote detoxification.

basically, its down to the reason and willingness of the faster!

Fasting means going totally without food. You drink water only, or perhaps a little diluted fruit juice.

most people fast becasue of their religions others to cleanse themselves from either something pyhsical or spirirtual. but you go a certain period of time without food. there are many different types: no food fast, fruits and veggie fast, water only fast. it all depends of the one who is fasting and why they are fasting. so youre basically depriving yourself from a particular thing.

Fasting is going without food, but you can drink water and eat bread.

Usually you are allowed to drink liquids. Juices and such are also acceptable sometimes. But fasting literally means "abstaining from food".

Fasting for religious and spiritual reasons has been a part of human custom since pre-history. It is mentioned in the Bible, in both the Old and New Testament, the Qur'an, the Mahabharata, and the Upanishads. Fasting is also practiced in many other religious traditions and spiritual practices

It is when foreign people dont eat for a while and then when the fast ends they eat a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigg... meal

I THINK

Fasting is basically not eating until sun up to sun down, why they do it? because they are honoring their "lord". well, they can only eat at midnite{sun down} to sun up, so basically they get SOME time to eat. They always start February 1st to Feb 28th[ the end of february}.

yes fasting is without food. You can have liquids but no food.

from a muslim view, fasting means not eating any food and drink , control your emotional feeling like angry , and also any sexual activities all day long..start from early morning pray in the dawn ( usually there's a calculation schedule for praying, because muslim prays 5 times a day..in Indonesia we call it sholat..)..until the afternoon pray, the deeper meaning for fasting in Islam is to control your body and soul from any desire and lust to achieve a free and clearer mind in life.
Well at least, that's all i know...
