What is the difference between regular cake and pound cake?!

Question:

What is the difference between regular cake and pound cake?

I am getting a cake for my sons birthday and I am between a chocolate cake and a chocolate pound cake.
Is one moister then the other?

Answers:
pound cake is usually moister and denser. If you need it to last for awhile go with pound cake. If you like light and fluffy, go with regular cake.

Pound cakes tend to be more moist, at least when I make them, they are. :-) The only thing with pound cakes though....they don't taste too good with frosting on them. Usually just a little powdered sugar on top, which isn't very decorative for a boy's birthday party.

Pound cake is much denser regular is fluffy.

I'd say the regular cake. I know that pound cake is *a lot* denser than a regular. It would depend on how the baker made the cake. I'd choose the regular cake ?

Pound cake is a dense cake made from equal amounts of flour, eggs, butter, and sugar, and doesn't contain any chemical leaveners (baking powder/soda).

pound cakes are a much heavier batter and take longer to cook, the right way. They are also much richer than regular cakes because of the number of eggs used

pound cake is a lot denser and heavier than a regular cake. it has a lot more butter in it making it a lot richer. regular cake is light and more airy. pound cake probably wouldnt make a very good birthday cake.

a pound cake is much denser than a regular cake, because of the difference in ingredient ratio.

I believe the name "pound cake" came from the fact that there are equal parts of ingredients, and when weighted together, they typically equal one pound, respectively.

your son is much more inclined to enjoy a regular chocolate cake, as opposed to a chocolate pound cake. The density tecture & flavor of a pound cake will most likely be foreign to him.

Happy Labor Day to you, the day your labored & birthed your son!!!! congratulations!!!
