Are Bagels healthy or Bad?!

Question:

Are Bagels healthy or Bad?

I have only recently discovered Bagels. I don't know why I have never tried them before. I would put philidelphia light and bacon on them or tuna and mayo or Ham, primula cheese and onion salt. But I don't have them very often because I can't buy them near me. When I get my hands on them, I stock up. Are they alright in small doses or bad for you in some way? Anyone any more ideas what to put on them?

Answers:
they are fine we have them with cheese and tomato, hummous, plain, veggie bacon, ceam cheese and smoked salmon, the list is endless!

It isn't necessarily the bagel that is unhealthy, it is the stuff you put on it.

i would not like to eat a begel dog , could make you sick

bagels are basically bread. lots of carbs, but there are much worse things to eat. stock up, don't worry about it.

yeash! you put all that on a bagel?!?
very unhealthy!
try english muffins instead. also if you REALLY love bagels just buy the whole grain kind and skip all that junk you put on it.

even small doses of really bad things can hurt you .

bagels are carb discs, limit yourself if they aren't grain bagels, and even then, limit yourslef, don't get fat

To eat a healthy bagel you have to order an
whole wheat one
and put Smart Balance on it...

Wheat bagles are better than regular - they're basically starchy bread. The bacon and ham add fat and cholesterol.

Anything is okay in moderation, but bagels are not "healthy" food. They're not necessarily bad for you - they're not deep fried like doughnuts, or full of trans fats - they're just processed flour and starch.

There are worse things for you than bagels, but you would be surprised how many calories are in those giant bagels (like 400)! My favourite thing to put on a bagel is herb cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers.

They're a good source of carbs. it really depends on what you put on them. You shouldn't have more than one a day or even a couple a week.

bagels aren't unhealthy. I just wouldn't eat them all day long. it's just like everything else. Good in moderation

Bagels aren't bad for you, but they do have a lot of calories and carbs. If your counting calories or carbs, try scooping out the doughy insides and eating the shell of the bagel. It also makes it easier to throw some tuna fiush in the scooped-out portion.

I like chive cream cheese and smoked salmon or lox,
tuna fish & bacon,
bacon, egg & cheese,
Chicken cutlet, mayo, lettuce & tomato

They are very very fattening when you put cream cheese on them.

However, I lost 40 pounds eating sandwiches on bagels with no mayo or cheese. I ate one every day, but cut all sugar out of my diet.

Bagels are quite light(they are basibally made of bread) so it would only be unhealthy if you like dumped loads(like loads) of cheese on it and ate it like every single day.

Healthy without any toppings: they contain no fat! Much healthier than muffins or doughnuts or other breakfast pastries.

Not so healthy with high fat toppings like mayo and cream cheese (I love cream cheese, too, and NOT the light kind!).

ok if your slim but for a bulky big bird probably not a good idea

where have you been all your life!? i like the ones with the seeds and nuts on top from tescos :) toasted with jam on top yummy....

i think that if you put loadsa philadelphia on them it is bad for you but they are my favourite food ever they're like heaven. yummm so to be honest... WHO CARES? xxxx

there is no difference to ordinary bread you can buy loads of different kinds America eat loads

most bagels are quite hugh in calories so be sure to kee that in mind when you watch what you eat. Also, be aware fo wat you put ON the bagel; it's the butter PB, jam &/or creamcheese that can really be the downfall.

If you find a really good, fresh bagel, its great without all the junk on it. try straming the bagel, or heating it in the microwave. Eat it whole like that & take in about 300 calories respectively.

if you really want something on it, try fat free cream cheese; it takes a little time to get ued to the different taste but it has great protein & no fat! Or you could try sugar free jam ( 10 calories per tablespoon).

if you really wanta to minimize yourcalories, eat only half a bagel instead of a whole one. That can save you alot of calories!!

:o) Best of luck to you! I love bagels too!!!

:o)

Healthy especially with cream cheese and smoked salmon.

Whole wheat bagels are better for you then white bagels.

Since you only get them once in a while, it doesn't seem like it'd be much harm in enjoying them when you can.
