If your family members drink, there is a large probability that alcohol could pull you under as well.
It is good that you realize the negative effects of drinking. I didn't learn about them until after I had lost friends and jobs and my integrity.
My mother started drinking at 20 years of age. She was an alcoholic by age 35. By the time she was 50, she was drinking 3 fifths of whiskey a day, had lost her job as a teacher, had permanent brain damage that caused her to have epileptic seizures, the seizures caused her to break ribs and puncture her lung. Her drinking caused her to catch fire while cooking drunk, and she suffered 3rd degree burns all over her body. She survived all that, then got lung cancer and died while going through DT's 2 weeks after being diagnosed.
Alcohol has taken away the most important things in my life.
You are very smart. I wish all young people cared as much as you do.
I think you have good reasons not to try it yourself, but none at all to judge other people's behavior.
Drink up.
I think you are wise...very wise. If there is problem drinking in your family chances are that you, too, can be problem drinker. There is never a good reason to start drinking and "having do desire to" is the best answer if someone tries to get you to try it. It's a crutch you don't need. Hope you stick to your convictions...good luck!
Well, certainly if you are under 21 you should not. Not just becuase it is illegal, but becuase you are even more likely to become an alcoholic if you start drinking that young and if it is in your family. As long as people drink responsibly, and are of legal drinking age, I think it is fine.
you can drink in moderation
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I think that you should try it once... if you don't like it just say "no thanks, Im not really a drinker" If you do drink... to be polite,
1) be over 21
2)always remember what drinking can do to you, dont have more then two glasses
3) dont drive
go with your gut, you may not even like drinking!
I agree with you 100%. My mom is an alcoholic, as was her dad, and I dont want to expose myself to that type of thing.

The best thing for anyone is "don't ever start",I've known several peoples lives who have been ruined by drinking. They all started out by drinking a little ,then as time went by they were hooked. Please take it from me,I started drinking 4 or 5 beers a night and as time went by before I knew it I was drinking 12 beers a night.I was lucky though,I was able to stop after it was out of control, meaning I never killed anyone by an accident or anything while driving a car. It's a waist of money too,not one thing good comes from drinking.I drank for 13 years, usually stayed home and drank, thank GOD,I was'nt able to hurt no one this way.Life is to short, enjoy it sober-OK????? Thanks--Mark. P.S. things are really more fun when your sober.
