Is it healthier to eat vegetables raw rather than cooked? If so, why?!

Question:

Is it healthier to eat vegetables raw rather than cooked? If so, why?

Answers:
Generally, uncooked vegetables retain their vitamins, minerals and nutrients better. Cooking them removes some of them. Cooked veggies are still good for you too though.

Raw........no nutrients lost from cooking

Sometimes cooking can deplete a veggie of some of its nutirents, but it really depends on how it is cooked. Usually, cooking will have little effect on the nutrtional aspect of the vegetable.

Usually yes. If your eat the veggies raw, you get the raw nutrients and vitamins. If you cook them, the nourishment is usually cooked out.

It is healthier to eat them raw. You will get all the vitamins that way. Just make sure that they are washed very well before eating.

Some vegetables are better cooked than raw because the nutrients are more bioavailable. Some veggies you don't really have a choice on (like corn or beans).

Cooking often destroys certain vitamins like Vit. C, but you can get these same delicate vitamins from fruit, so it's not a complete loss. Steaming often retains vitamins better since you aren't pouring them off in water (although some studies say the loss is actually very minimal).

The biggest thing is simply to HAVE the vegetables. Many Americans have very few veggies in any form.

raw. cooking takes some of the vits and minerals out.

some vegtables are better eaten raw like carrots, celery, onions, all peppers, tomatoes, and corn ,due to the fact that cooking some vegtables takes some of the vitamins and nutrients out of them.(like in the skins or peels)

Raw is better, of course, but if you shock some veggies after you boil or steam them in ice water they don't lose too much of their vitamins.
example: steamed veggies, broccoli, coliflower, you get the idea. hop this helps!

raw is better because veggies keep their nutriments...if you must cook them....steam them so they are still crisp and they will not loose many of their nutriments.....if you boil them you can get most of the nutriments back if you drink the water you cooked them in.....

raw, because u get all of the nutrients this way

eating raw vegs are only ok if they're grown using bio/organic-pesticides.
otherwise you are actually eating the same thing you are using to kill cockroaches.

Yes, because when you cook vegetables you lose some of the nutritional value and vitamins.
