Answers:
1. make a weekly meal menu and shop accordingly and stick to the plan. (ok you can be flexible at times :) ) reason: say you open the fridge. try to decide what to cook for dinner, spend a while deciding. when you decide, you realise you havent got half the ingredients. then you think for a while how to improvise. then you just give up cos you just cant be bothered and just get some take away... (unhealthy take away majority of the time!!)
also if you make a menu it's easier to see whether you've included all food types, meat, vegetables, legumes, dairy etc. otherwise you'd find yourself eating steak day after day after day... no good. :)
2. STOP buying junk. if you're in need of a snack and fruit is all you've got, fruit is what you'll eat. eliminate the temptation of eating junky stuff e.g. chips, chocolate biscuits, fizzy drink etc by keeping them off your pantry. trust me i'm not a Nazi, i do eat anything and everything but junk food should be an occasional treat not the main course!! so keep it out of the house!!!
3. Look for healthier options for your already established good habbits. e.g Breakfast!!! good on you if you do have breakfast every morning. (very important) if you have toast for breakfast, put away the white bread and buy whole meal or multigrain. white bread has 0 nutrition value. if you're a cereal person, find a good cereal, you'll realise most cereals have a very, (I mean very) high sugar content etc. pick a good one (weetbix is the bomb if you live in Aussie)
4. Drink at least 2lt of water. this can be a hard task for some one who's simply not a water drinker like myself. well try to make it simple for yourself. dont fill up a 2lt. jug and stare at it all day. buy a small 500ml. bottled water from supermarket. once you finish it just keep refilling. 4 of those a day is all you need :) just keep sipping away all day!!!!!
hope this is helpful!
1. eat breakfast, lunch and dinner (don't skip meals!)
2. eat smaller portions
3. drinks lots of water (water fills you up and it good for you)
4. eat more veggies
5. cut back on salt and sugar
Eat smaller portions, but more often, daily
drink more water
eat more fruits and veggies
cut down on sugars
cut down on salt
switch to low-fat/no-fat products
eat more fish
cut down on red meat
eat more lean meats
replace red meat with chicken
I started eating more slowly, so I filled up faster. I will lean back between eating and put my fork down, just giving myself time to digest.
That resulted in taking smaller portion sizes, so that I was taking moderate portions.
You would be surprised at how satisfied you are and do not have the overstuffed and overly full feeling, which is wrong to have anyway. My hunger is satisfied and I do not desire to have more.
Eat properly balanced meals every meal. Eat a good breakfast, it's the most important fuel of the day.
Eat a moderate lunch with a vegetabe, small amount of protein, and a small fruit.
At dinner eat moderately small. Eat a vegetable, protein and fruit and have one small carb.
Fruit cups are good in low sugar. Oranges should be small in size. Two to three carbs a day are fine, but remember to count how many in each meal. Meat should be the proportion size of a deck of cards. Vegetables are pretty free range in amount. The more raw vegetables, the more vitamins you receive.
If you want some chocolate or goodie, take a small amount and stop and savor and delight in each bite before swallowing. You'll be surprised how gratifying it is without having a lot.
Cut back on the salt, sodium, and meat. And eat low-fat again and eat whole wheat bread. Unfortunately it's all of the stuff my hubby eats. If he knows something's healthy, he doesn't like it.
