Why is it that Jersey Royal potatoes dont taste the same now?
I have never begrudged paying stupid money for Jersey Royals (￡2.50/lb) until recent years because they scrape and taste different to any other type of potatoes..I even used to wait for the first crop at ￡5/pound with excitement (I know its sad).. Is it because my taste buds have changed or do you agree that they are not the same except the price??

Jersey Royals used ot grown on smaller scales and only really be available at the beginning of the season. These days you can just about buy them all year round and they are more intensively farmed using seed potato specfically engineered to be higher yielding and quicker growing.
The only real way to get back to what you know and love is go to your local farmer's market and find the organic veg stalls to see if they have any. If they do, buy some.
When you get home - try them and if they are what you are after keep 6 back and try and grow them. a decent potato barrel only costs ￡30 and a bag of compost is ￡5. After a couple of seasons it will pay for itself :)

They have most likely been genetically modified like most produce in the UK and US. Email the company and ask them if they are GMO. I use organic produce that tastes totally different from the garbage in the market. If you can find some that are non GMO, you could grow your own. I grow gourmet fingerling potatoes in a used wheelbarrow on my porch. Container gardening makes it possible to grow your own stuff even in a small space.

My taste buds are a bit dull, but Jersey Royals are the very best and to me they taste as good as ever they did. I always add a sprig of mint,easy to grow, and a little knob of butter. I know butter is not good for you, I know,Iknow, but Jersey Royals are but once a year so why not I say!
Have you had a cold recently or have you started new drugs from your G.P ? This can often cause loss of taste.
