What's the difference between a T-bone and Porterhouse steak?
Answers:
Porterhouse steaks are a better cut. If you look at both, the porterhouse will have a larger tenderloin piece (the small side of the porterhouse) which is tender like filet mignon. The T bone will have a very small section. In addition, the larger side of these steaks, the porterhouse will be more tender and tasty. Although they look similar, the porterhouse is much better. Where I live in So Calif, they often times sell both cuts for the same price. People that don't know the difference may buy the TBone but the Porterhouse is the much better cut, even if it's 10 to 50 cents more per pound.
The cut of the steak is different.
They both have a strip and filet portion. The porterhouse is for serious steak lovers as it has a larger strip portion and a smaller filet portion.
the porterhouse is bigger and more fattening and takes more time to digest. red meat is bad.
The Porterhouse steak is much more tender and juicy.
Yum,Yum. I love it!!
The difference is the size of the tenderloin side of the steak.
Loosely say that both the T-bone and the Porterhouse are T-bone steaks. Both are cut from the short loin and both contain two steaks - a strip loin and a tenderloin (filet mignon) steak seperated by the T-bone.
The USDA specifies how wide the tenderloin side needs to be (1.25") before you can call the steak a Porterhouse.
Looking at the picture, below, the T-bone is cut from the middle of the short loin so the Tenderloin portion is smaller while the Porterhouse is cut from the back end of the short loin so you have a larger tenderloin portion.
