Cooking for my boyfriend?!

Question:

Cooking for my boyfriend?

My boyfriend and I live with his mom right now, so we eat out most of the time. We're moving to an apartment in a few weeks so we won't be able to eat out as much as we do (we probably spend between $300-$400 a month on eating out). The problem is is that my boyfriend is SOOOOO picky. I'm scared to cook for him and I don't want to eat chicken all the time. I don't want to make him cook for himself-he might starve! :) Besides having him help me grocery shop, what are some ideas that might help me out, (he doesn't like cheese, anything green etc etc)

Answers:
Well, if he's like my husband he would eat plain chicken and rice every night. Sometimes, I cook everything plain and just spice up my stuff that I am eating. You can always ask him what he likes, what he will try. I can get my husband to eat a lot of different things now, like, instead of the chicken, I found out he will eat ground turkey breast.

My husband also claims to be a picky eater but the truth is that he eats anything that I put in front of him. I think that most men are this way, and if your bf is truly a very picky eater I dont see whats wrong with having him take over the cooking duties. Its not just a womans job anymore!

Have him sit down and plan out the meals for the week with you, this way you can both decide on what you like.

Ask him what he wants for dinner. If you don't get a straight answer, make something you want. If he doesn't like what you choose then he'll start making decisions and it will be easier for you.

if it's just the 2 of you, eating out isn't all that expensive.

Buy a cookbook and have him go through and highlight what sounds good.
They have cookbooks just made for two people and for folks like us, on a budget.

The money you save by eating at home could go towards other things. As for your question, Look at the things he orders at a restaurant. Get a Rachel Ray 30 minute meal cookbook and try to duplicate the type of foods he orders while dining out. Practice makes perfect and when he realizes how much money he is saving he should be more tolerant of your cooking

when you go shopping for food, you have to think of the food as multi tasking, for example. Steak, monday grill it with a potatoe or veggies. next night take the left overs and make fajitas or tacos.

also pasta is a good way to strech out your food and your money. grill chicken one night, then toss the leftover chicken with some cans of diced tomatoes along with garlic and onions and any veggies that he would like with some whole wheat pasta.

Also learn to make something that is refrigerator velcro. meaning you and take whats in your frigde and whip up some good fixings. like fried rice, or an omellet, and when you wanna go french even a quiche.
