What is the chalky after taste in some fudges?!

Question:

What is the chalky after taste in some fudges?

The best fudge I have ever tasted doesn't have a chalky after taste.

Answers:
I think it is the artificial chocolate flavor and color. Newport, RI has the best fudge I ever tasted and it has no after taste, just a taste for more.

Probably corn starch or other powdered fillers found in marshmallow creme commonly used to make fudge.

Cheap 10x sugars tend to be chalky as well.

Authentic real fudge contains neither 10x sugar or marshmallow creme.
