Is it dangerous to have a diet consisting entirely of fruit?!

Question:

Is it dangerous to have a diet consisting entirely of fruit?

Answers:
I think it is, cause it seems that a diet like that would be lacking in essential protein, but I'm sure there are people who have tried it who could tell me differently. once upon a time for a nutrition class, I did an oral report on "fruitarians" their diet doesn't subsist 100 percent on fruit, but it stresses eating only raw food, harvested from trees in such a way that the harvest doesn't destroy the parent plant. I used to think there wasn't a way you could get any more dietarily extreme than vegan, but then something comes along to prove me wrong.

Not dangerous, but not very healthy either. You would be lacking in a lot of vitamins and nutrients, plus you would be consuming a lot of sugar.

I would think it could be, fruits dont give you much protine, and they are high in natural sugars, which are not horrible for you, but I think you need more in your diet....I also think you would get the "runs" if you only ate fruit.

It would be very unhealthy. VERY.

Fruit for a day or two may not be bad. Some people eat only fruit for a day or two to "detoxify" themselves.

Over a long period of time, the lack of protien may start causing problems.

I don't think it is dangerous but you have to get protein from somewhere and it is not in fruit.

Yes. Have you ever seen the food pyramid? Even if you are vegetarian, you can still get protein from nuts and/or eggs. But if you only eat fruit, you are not getting the entire amount of nutrients your body needs. Also, taking vitamin supplements does not work nearly as well as ingesting the nutrients by food.

not if you are a fruit bat

Yes,because the fruits don′t give to you all that your body needs..of course that depends of what you do..the calories that your body needs and so on..

I would think so. People have different nutritional needs than other animals

We need proteins to keep our muscles intact, iron, calcium.

Fruit does not give you all the vitamins and minerals that you need to maintain your body and its proper functions. Fruit also tends to be heavy on sugars (natural sugars found in fruits are still sugars and too much sugar is not good for you). And a diet made up entirely of fruit will probably also cause the runs. A balanced diet of fruit, veggies, grain, protein, and dairy is still the best way to go. More fresh veggies will add bulk to your intake without adding bulk to your waistline.

Dangerous in the sense of what? Overall, no. You can have a diet of fruits and veggies and be fine, but you will still end up needing some carbs and proteins in your diet as well. But fruit is healthy so it's not dangerous, but it's just not well rounded as far as the nutrients and other things you need for an overall "healthy diet".
