Why do guys get groceries that we already have?
So the other day my fiance and his brother went and got groceries to try and help me out without letting me know. Well it was a nice gesture but they got so many things we already had and didn't get things that we needed. Do you have this same problem? Or am I all alone!? :(

I won't go to the grocery store unless I have a list and check out my cabinets and fridge. It's not that I'm complaining, I just thought it was funny! Now we have 3 things of ketchup! Anyone need ketchup? lol

OK...i am a guy and yes i have done this....my wife went out the day prior to me going shopping and picked up a few things....i stopped at the market on my way home knowing that is was my night to cook....when i got back we then have 2 gallons of milk, 2 heads of lettuce, an extra tub of butter spread and my god what must have been 50 rolls of toilet paper....we laugh about these little things all the time but in my defense i don't bring the list to work because i know i will lose it and i get everything on the list but i always end up getting something extra because i cannot remember if it was on that one or the one prior....
No, my stepdad does the same thing! I think they do shopping more as a spur of the moment kind of thing, without putting any organization into it whatsoever. It is a nice gesture though, so I try to remeber that when I get frustrated...

just enjoy the thought--geeez, i wish my bro did that for me--Count Your Blessings!
Hope this helps!
I'm female and I often do the same thing- I just don't have the time to make a list, and I don't usually cook, so I have no idea what's in my cabinets.
It happens even when I give a specific list of what I need. He's trying to be helpful, but URGH!!!!!
That is so funny!
My husband don't usually go grocery shopping but he puts what he wants on a list.
Like catsup and there is already 2 bottles in the cabinet, he didn't even look for it.
So I have to take the list before I go to the store and check out the cabinets to see if we already have it.
I would never trust him getting groceries, even if he had a detailed list I don't think he would get the right stuff.
Try to laugh at it. My husband tried the same thing. We now have TWO heads of celery, and he accidentally bought wheat instead of white. (Which isn't really a problem for me, but it is for him!) But it was sweet of him.
they were probably shopping by their stomachs. and be glad that now you are stocked up on some items and wont have to buy them for a while. just choose to see the good in their mistake and it will seem less of a mistake... (i applied that to my cousins whistling all day that was driving me nuts and it worked)
I do the same thing last week i had 3 gallons of milk and 3 loafs of bread. I never check when i go grocerie shopping by myself.
If it's non-perishable groceries you can take them back to the store for other things you need. That's what I've done before when my husband got the wrong things. He doesn't usually get too much of something, just the wrong brand, flavor, or size, etc.
After one too many grocery store disasters, my husband is no longer allowed to do the shopping. For me, instead of buying stuff we already had, I had to deal with the "but this kind was cheaper!" syndrome; i.e., generic peanut butter (yuck), Scott toilet paper (ouch!), 30% fat hamburger meat (what am I supposed to do with THAT?), cheese "food" (speaks for itself), and two-for-$1 store brand white bread.
Even with a specific list, he couldn't seem to help himself, hence the ban.
Sometimes I think he does it on purpose so he won't have to go! =)
with my husband he doesn't really check to see what we already have. soooo he picks up what he thinks we need or what he wants, like ice cream in the flavor that only he likes. mine has been doing it for over 24 years, ya just kinda get use to it. just smile in appreciation, save the reciept and take back what you don't want in exchange for what you do. they don't read labels either, my husband brought home ANGEL HAIR PASTA instead of spaghetti, guess what?, i saved the reciept and took it back. of course i let them know my husband did the shopping, everybody understands that.
Honey, they can be idiots. It's their nature.
Send them back to the store with a list. Otherwise, make them eat only what they bought.
