Why are some kernels of corn light yellow and some dark?!

Question:

Why are some kernels of corn light yellow and some dark?

Answers:
Corn comes in different colors; there's traditional yellow; white; and the type you're referring to is called "bi-color", meaning that there are a mixture of yellow and white kernals. It's a hybrid and the most popular one for home-growers is called Peaches and Cream. There's very little difference in the taste, it's just kind of a novelty.

Plants always have some color differences.

camouflage, there getting clever. lol

The ear was cross-pollenated by white corn during germination in the field

ive always wondered that too.

Color comes from the type of corn grown. A summer favorite is called Butter & Sugar and the kernels are yellow and white.

Corn has been altered immensely and came in many colors especially in the Southwest. Those colors ranged in red, white, blue, yellow, black and variegated (multi-colored.) Could be one of those genes trying to show itself....Have fun, take care, and never stop asking questions.
