What does Napoleon mean in cuisine?!

Question:

What does Napoleon mean in cuisine?

Beef Napoleon - Apple Puff Napoleon - Polenta Napoleon - Pork Loin Napoleon - What does it all mean?? I know Neopolitan is the chocolate vanilla strawberry combination- but I'm pretty sure it is different! (even though i did always call the icecream napoleon when I was a kid)

Answers:
To me it means a leafy dough with custard in between layers and a sugar crust on top

a napoleon is in layers usually a dessert consisting of flaky pastry and some creamy middle and cream and fruit so on, in main dishes its similar cept not a dessert...lol think layers and some pastry or breaded base of some sort
