Refrigerate or not?!

Question:

Refrigerate or not?

Do these foods need refrigeration after they have been opened?

1. peanut butter
2. bacon bits
3. pancake syrup
4. chocolate syrup
5. ketchup

and do you refridgerate Velveeta before it is opened? (I know you have to once it is open).

Thanks!

Answers:
1. peanut butter - No... unless you take a year to finish a jar. The concern is the oils become rancid.

2. bacon bits - No, Low moisture and kept covered. Bacteria will not grow in it. But like peanut butter, if you don't expect to finish it in a year, then Yes. The concern is the fats become rancid.

3. pancake syrup - No... too much sugar so bacteria won't grow in it.

4. chocolate syrup - Not sure... so I'll say yes to be on the safe side.

5. ketchup - Yes, leaving it out too long, ketchup with start to ferment.

Velveeta... I'll say, "NO" since Velveeta is found in the unrefrigerated food aisle and not the refrigerated food section. That's a highly processed "food" item so it's shelf-stable.

Some ketchups do and some don't. With all of those things, look at the label for directions.

yes

when in doubt, refrigerate it. it couldn't hurt.

The only two of the five I refrigerate are chocolate syrup and ketchup.

I would refrigerate pancake syrup, chocolate syrup, and ketchup, although I don't think you have to put the ketchup in. I just do it to do it. The bottles should say "Refrigerate after opening" if they need it.

1.no
2. no
3.no
4.yes
5.yes
They all could be refrigerated though, and would stay fresh longer. Velvetta does not need to be in the frig before it is opened, but does after it has been opened.

1-no
2-i do
3-i do
4-i do
5-definitely

I don't refridgerate velveeta before it's opened, b/c when you buy it it's not in a refridgerated section.

None of those things HAVE to be refrigerated after they have been open but pancake syrup and ketchup suggest that it is best to refrigerate after you open it. I have never put my peanut butter in the fridge! It is kinda your call...

peanut butter-no
bacon bits-yes
pancake syrup-no
chocolate syrup-yes
ketchup-depends(i usually do)
Velveeta-I do , but im not sure if you are required to do so, read the back of the box

just chocolate syrup. bacon bits (if you want but usually yes) and ketchup defiantly!!!!!

you buy velveeta?
blech!

Peanut butter does not need refrigeration, pancake syrup does not either. Bacon bits -not sure, chocolate syrup does, and ketchup does. Velveeta only needs refrigerator after opening. Most items that need to be refrigerated after opening will tell you on the container.

1. if it's got preservatives, no. all natural, yes.
2. actual bacon, yes. soy with bacon flavor, no.
3. if it's got preservatives, no. all natural, yes.
4. if it's the fudgey kind, yes. hard shell, definately no.
5. yes.
bonus. you can always tell by how they present it at the store. if it is refridgerated, yes. if it's room temp, no. this is especially true with produce.

Are they "Real bacon bits" or Bac-Os? Bac-Os need no refrigeration. Nothing else on your list does either. Velveeta needs no refrigeration before it is opened.

*/*

I only refridgerate bacon bits if they are made from real bacon. If they are the imitation bacon bits, then no. Velveeta does not need refridgeration before it is opened.

1.No
2.No, but keep in cool dry place(for flavor and to keep from clumping together
3.No
4.No
5.once it is opened (retains its flavor and color)
6.It is not refrigerated on the store shelf I go to,so I would also say no.

1) No
2) Yes (but only if they are real bacon bits)
3) No
4) Yes (It has sugar in it & it could mold at room temp - yuck)
5) No...it has enough vinegar in it to keep it from spoiling, but most people do anyway.

And you do NOT have to refridgerate Velveeta because it's vacauum sealed, once you've opened the foil lining, you have to refridgerate it.

I never refrigerate any of those.

everything on your list needs to be refridgerated except for the peanut butter

you don't have to refrigerate peanut butter or pancake syrup
you need to refrigerate bacon bits, chocolate syrup, ketchup, and velveeta
