Having trouble finding fresh rhubarb in the shops?!

Question:

Having trouble finding fresh rhubarb in the shops?

When is the best season to buy rhubarb? My local supermarket (small-ish Tesco never has it in stock), any other ideas for sourcing it. I love rhubarb crumble ;)

Answers:
All the shops around the Midlands seem to have rhubarb. Do you live in an area where there are farm shops? Anywhere that has markets? One of our local plant nurseries has a fresh veg and fruit section and is selling it.
You can, of course, buy it in tins and frozen as a penultimate resort.
It can also be grown in large tubs if you don't have a garden but possibly have a flat with a balcony.
I have a very small garden with a tiny pond and I have rhubarb growing around it pretending to be mini Gunneras!

It is in season right now in Illinois! If you can't find it fresh at your local grocers or farmers markets, you may be able to find it frozen.
Otherwise you can order a plant and have it shipped to you, so you can grow it yourself!!

can you not grow some?
they need very little care, best in a corner away from pets, as they're supposedly poisonous raw & some silly animals will eat it.
if you haven't a garden ask some one who has?

The best time to look for rhubarb is late spring or early summer. At least here in the south. If you can't find it in a store, look in a farmer's market. Even if the farmers don't sell it, they are the ones who will know where you can get it. You could also try raising it yourself. It is a perennial plant. Good luck.

Now is a good season, though in my experience the best time to eat it has just passed.

Tesco's do carry it, but perhaps it's not something your tiny one gets in.

Where are you based? The best uk rhubarb comes from the rhubarb triangle in near wakefield (serious).

I tried a rhubarb and rosemary tart last week and it was awsome, strange combination but was mmmmm

right i'm off to watch the hairy bikers

i know they have it my local tesco and its half price at the mo. i have also seen it in Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets. Also though, out of season tinned rhubarb is fab for crumbles and very quick and easy as it already cooked xxx.
