Question:

Why do we crave salt?

Answers:
sodium deficiency

We do? I don't. Maybe you do because it adds extra flavor.

Because its good on just about everything.........

I dont know, I think it has to do with the vitamins we are lacking in our bodies. I crave salt constantly!

I don't. I never use it in cooking and never add it to food. I cook everything from fresh so I'm not getting salt from cans or preserved foods.

This can be caused by mineral deficiencies. Dehydration can also be a factor.

Salt is essential not only to life, but to good health. It's always been that way. Human blood contains 0.9% salt (sodium chloride). Salt maintains the electrolyte balance inside- and outside of cells. Most of our salt comes from foods, some from water. Inadequate salt can be a health issue. It is recommend replacing water and salt lost in exercise and when working outside. Increased salt intakes have been used successfully to combat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Salt adds flavor to foods. But its also important to your body because it traps in water and helps you maintain water levels in your body. Thats important because a human body is at least 85% water.

You can pass out from not having enough sodium or potassium, a couple of very important electrolytes. So, we do need it. We probably don't need as much as we eat, though.

You may have an iodine deficiency if your body craves salt. Like any other mineral, the body needs a certain amount in order to remain healthy. The problem with salt is some people cannot have too much of it but there are many foods already containing salt without having to add some from the salt shaker.
