Stomach ache from raw squash?!

Question:

Stomach ache from raw squash?

I found some squash in the store that was washed and cut into pieces, so I just assumed I could eat it like that. Well, I ate a few pieces and went to bed.

When I woke up a few hours later, I had a terrible stomach ache. Should I have cooked it first in boiling water or something? It didn't say so on the container.

Answers:
always cook squash...it's too strong to digest otherwise.
the store had it already cubed so when you got home..you could just rinse and then cook it.

You can eat it raw, but most people do cook it. Maybe your stomach just isnt used to the squash, and thats why it hurts now.

Feel better soon!

do you usually eat raw veggies? They are really hard for your body to digest, especially if you aren't used to it, because of all the fiber... plus you body won't digest as well while sleeping. Maybe next time lightly steam it, but I would think it would have been safe to eat raw... did you wash it???

If you are not use to all the roughage it can cause a tummy ache. Once my son when he was 7 ate 5 tiny yellow squash out of the garden before I caught him and 3 years later yellow squash still makes him queasy. This to shall pass....
Peace.
