How can you make Freshwater out of Salt water?!
How can you make Freshwater out of Salt water?
Either in abundance, or if I were trapped on a desert island.
Answers:
How it's made in abundance, from the website....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/desalinatio...
"Desalination refers to any of several processes that remove excess salt and other minerals from water in order to obtain fresh water suitable for animal consumption or irrigation, and if almost all of the salt is removed, for human consumption. Sometimes the process produces table salt as a by-product. Desalination of ocean water is common in the Middle East (because of water scarcity) and the Caribbean, and is growing fast in the USA, North Africa, Singapore, Spain, Australia and China.[citation needed] It is used also on ships, submarines and islands...."
Survival mode

"Water is one of your most urgent needs in a survival situation. You can't live long without it, especially in hot areas where you lose water rapidly through perspiration. Even in cold areas, you need a minimum of 2 liters of water each day to maintain efficiency.
More than three-fourths of your body is composed of fluids. Your body loses fluid as a result of heat, cold, stress, and exertion. To function effectively, you must replace the fluid your body loses. So, one of your first goals is to obtain an adequate supply of water.
Almost any environment has water present to some degree. Table 6-1 lists possible sources of water in various environments. It also provides information on how to make the water potable...."

You have to boil off all the water and recondense it - all the salt will be gone
Pretty much need a still
You would need to boil the salt water and somehow trap the steam. The steam, once it turns from gas to liquid again, will be freshwater. If you know how to build a still, you're in business. Hopefully, if you're ever stranded on a desert isle, you'll have the Professor to help you invent neat stuff like this.
it is called reverse osmosis
If you have an empty bottle and plastic, pour salt water unto the bottle and cover it. Then place bottle under the sun until the water (Salty) evaporates on the plastic. Presto, you got fresh water.
Dig a hole in the sand, (in direct sun) maybe a foot deep, use a container (what ever you can find) place in the middle of the hole, have a covering (plastic to the rescue) completely over the hole, secure edges with rocks. Place a small pebble in the middle of the plastic. The sun will create the water which will run down the funnel the small rock created and drip into the container. not a lot but with a couple you can have enough to survive.
With a platic bag (or similar), tie it round a heap of green tree leaves, secure with vine. come back next day and you will find fresh water in the corner of the bag. not a lot but with a couple of bags you can have enough to survive.
