got into an arguement about salt and pepper he says its a chemical reaction in the food but i dont believe him... hope you can give me some insight into this question.

If you mean why does salt and pepper taste the way it does, it certainly IS a chemical reaction. Salt is sodium chloride, plain and simple. It dissolves on food and in your mouth to combine with the chemistry of the food you eat. Pepper is more complex as it is a ground berry (yes, pepper corns are berries) but the same principle applies.
Remember just because something is "natural" as opposed to synthetic or man-made, it is still made of chemicals. EVERYTHING is made from chemicals.

No way! To be a chemical properties of the food you′re adding the salt and pepper too would change to that of a different element. Its like saying that if you added salt and peper to a steak you′d get a chicken breast as a result. Its a physical reaction by far...
