Does soda water or sparkling water give you kidney stones?!

Question:

Does soda water or sparkling water give you kidney stones?

I've also heard that iced tea gives you kidney stones, if you drink an extensive amount, it just seems so untrue!! someone please give me some closure about these drink myths! :)

Answers:
I have never heard that soda water causes stones, but I do know you can get calciferous stones, so if you are drinking a heavy mineral water I guess it could. Large amounts of unabsorbed calcium can cause stones.

The tannins in tea have been shown to contribute to kidney stones, but now they are telling us that the anti-oxidants balance out that risk. I asked my doctor about all that, and she said "Do you like tea? If so, drink it in moderation and don't worry about it."

Stones are made of various things, salt deposits like calcium are most common. I have heard that if you are prone to stones that avoiding green tea is advisable, but proof is in the pudding so to speak and it's not likely that anything "gives" you stones. If you are prone to get them then you are prone to get them. There is a greater risk with high blood pressure. If you are hypertensive--get it under control.

Didn't hear that sparkling water could, I'd say no. But the ER Doctor told my friend too much soda pop or tea can.
