Potato disease...?!

Question:

Potato disease...?

ok so last week i bought red potatoes and stuck them in a hanging basket in the kitchen. then a few days later, this black liquid and white foam started oozing out of them. it was disgusting and i'd never seen it before. of course i threw them out but has anyone else experienced this? and does anyone know what it is?

Answers:
It is basically rot. Not sure what causes it - probably a mold or fungus. But it is gross. make sure that the area that the basket hangs in is away from light, heat and humidity. You better off storing these types or veggies in a cool dry place - like the bottom of a closet, but not the refrigerator

Sounds like they are organic potatoes, that is why farmers use fungicide to control potato blight, then you do not get potatoes like you have bought.

it also happens when you leave the potatoes in their bag - the humidity creates the mould. The best way to store potatoes is in a basket placed in the darkest corner of your pantry.
