How long does Fresh Cabbage last for?!

Question:

How long does Fresh Cabbage last for?

I have had a head of cabbage in my fridge, locked in a plastic bag for about 2 mos now. It looks perfectly fine and still as green as ever.nothing is wilted on it. Is this okay, safe to use??

Answers:
Sure, it keeps well. Pioneers used to keep cabbages all winter long in their root cellars, and our fridges are cooler than the root cellars were. I've used cabbage that old with no problem.

In my experience I have found cabbage to last 3-6 months. Peel back a few layers of leaves if you have to, and trim the bottom.
Although edible, older veggies loose vitamins, so best to consume veggies when they are fresh.

until it gets funkey

I don't know how long it lasts but if it's not discolored and still crisp (not limp) then it's probably fine.

Yes, you should be fine to use it. If is starts going limp and getting black streaks through it, it is time to toss it!
