Eating watermelon rinds?!
Eating watermelon rinds?
My roommates think I'm weird because I eat watermelon rinds like celery sticks. What do you think?
Answers:
i don't know where you are, but i live in southern louisiana and people eat them all the time. my grandma and all of her friends pickled them.
happy munching.
I do it too. Especially with a little salt...YUM.

Does it take long to digest? If it's edible it's probably good for you. =)
honestly i wouldnt eat them.. but if you like them then it shouldnt matter who thinks your weird or who makes fun of you.
~Enjoy~

Excellent source of fiber anyway.
My grandma used to pickle watermelon rinds every summer.
Eat on!
Personally, I wouldn't eat them, I would think they would be hard to digest....but if you like them, I say go for it. :-)
I love watermelon but have never tried the rinds,
do they have the same effect as prunes????
That is weird and pretty gross. I throw them away. That would be like eating the peel of an orange or banana, you just dont do it.
In "Farmer Boy" they eat pickled watermelon rinds. I don't think it's weird, as long as you MAKE sure that you are thoroughly washing the melon before you cut it. Otherwise you could get super sick!
thats actually where all the nutrients are!
Another new way to eat fruit!
I love watermelon, but I don't care for the rind. I suppose if I was stranded somewhere and desperate for food, I'd eat it. If you like the taste, go for it. I believe there's no harm in eating it. So, Bon-appetite!
The rinds are very edible and often used as a vegetable. So there is nothing wrong with eating them.
go ahead eat away. just don't eat the seeds.or else watermelons will grow inside you
Ooh! I'm going to have to try that!
I think that is weird too. But it is cool to be weird.
hey why not. we use rinds to make great recipes out of oranges and lemons and limes, people just don't know. i would be amazed how much people eat with the rinds in there food and don't know. so all the people that said yuck better find out what there eating the next time.
I like the rinds pickled. If you don't have a problem with digestion, go for it.
uhhh are you sure that's healthy?
My Grandmother used to make watermelon pickles with the rind. It is an old fashioned recipe back when very little was wasted.. I have never heard of eating them like celery sticks. aren't they a bit bitter? I would need more information on you to decide if you were truly weird, but I think this habit is a good start !
