Ring pulls. Does anyone else hate them?!

Question:

Ring pulls. Does anyone else hate them?

Not being a TV chef, I do know how to wield a tin opener. I just tried to open a large can of plum tomatoes. Didn't work, so I went for the tin opener, which cut a hole adjacent to the gap I had made with the ring pull. Result: tomatoes all over my work surface. I've counted my fingers and I still have ten plus two thumbs. Well that's nice!

As a teacher I jsu have to say - read the question. I do have a tin opener thanks and next time I see a ring pull I'm going to turn the can upside down and use the tin opener. Let's hope it's not asparagus!

Thanks to Paul A. Provves my point. If you have hands large enough to hold the tin steady, then ring pulls are probably OK, but us lesser mortals know how to use a tin opener.

Wow you have 10 fingers and 2 thumbs!! Sorry, I knew what you meant really! :-) My husband is a chef and he hates ring pulls too and can use a tin opener quite successfully. I try not to buy tins with ringpulls cos they allways, well almost, snap off and leave you with that daft little ring and a sharp bit!! Then the opener can't get a grip or tears through the tin!! Nasty, nasty things!!
(sorry for being sarcastic, I didn't mean it)

Yes happened to me too with tuna, pain in the ***.

I got a £2 gadget from Waitrose - can't open ring pulls otherwise. Lakeland also sell them. See http://www.lakeland.co.uk/product.aspx/!...

i am so happy you have all your fingers and thumbs left...tomatos are a sh*t to clean up too!...and yep, i despise those ring pull thingys as well!

ring pulls r OK for quickness but i have a tin opener that's so easy it practically does it its self.it`s 1 that opens tin from the side,u just put opener on & turn. £2 at the shop, try one of those openers.

I rather like them, easier than canopener. Of course I'm Male.

I have cut myself only once with a ring pull. It was only a little cut but it bled for AAAAGES, and nobody wanted me to finish preparing the food after that, and i didnt blame them!
