you definatley would not explode, unless you ate an unimaginable amout of mentos and drank same amount of diet coke. i saw it on mythbusters. you just will have gas coming out of both ends.

You might belch, but it wouldn't be a huge deal. The big reaction in the bottle comes from a reaction to some chemical in the drink, and the shell of the Mento, which for some reason provides a perfect place for the CO2 and that chemical to basically release all the carbonation at once. If you have crunched up or dissolved that shell to eat the candy, that reaction site would be broken.
