Why would cooked egg turn pink?!

Question:

Why would cooked egg turn pink?

Today when scrambling an egg, parts of it turned bright pink (I mean, like highlighter pink!) in the pan. Is this bad? Is it normal? I've never seen it before. Is it safe to eat?

ETA: It was definetly NOT blood. It was only where the egg touched the pan, and it was neon pink, not red.

You didn't add imitation bacon bits to it did you? It could have also been caused by a "blood spot" in the yolk. They are harmless unless it really grosses you out. Either that or a chemical reaction to your cooking pan. Read this link it is very informative.

No way unless d dead chick was a bit alive-ish!or a realy bad nasty disease!

An egg is an embryo. There might have been some level of blood in the egg yolk and when you scrambled it it mixed in with the yellow creating pink. I would not eat it, I'm sure it wouldn't kill you but it could make you queasy.

Sounds like there was some blood in the yolk. It won't hurt you but it's not very appetizing and I sure wouldn't eat it.

Were they fresh eggs? Eggs from a plant where the hens are kept in cages all the time are usually not fertilized.

If they weren't fresh and you didn't add anything to them then it might have been the pan or possibly something may be wrong with the hen that laid it.. but that's a stretch.

If they were fresh, it may have been a blood spot. Many won't eat it because they think it will make you sick, I have no idea if it will or not, but I don't eat them either, just the thought makes me nauseated, and I eat sunny side up eggs.

I've never had that happen before.
