Why are most eggs in Germany not refrigerated?
I'm studying abroad in Germany and I've noticed that very few eggs are kept in a referigerator case, like they are in the US. Can anyone explain to me why this is so?

In Europe, they shop more often for their groceries. Fresh eggs can last a few days out of the fridge, but the quality goes down quicker. In the US, we are busy folks and usually go to the store once a week, so the eggs must be stored in the fridge. When I was young we had fresh eggs from our hens and we only put them in the fridge if we could not use them with in 2-3 days.

I will be trying Garlic's tip, just out of curiosity. It sounds interesting.
The French don't refrigerate their eggs either. The reason is that the egg behaves a bit differently when it has not been in the fridge. Try this sometime; Take three eggs and put them down in a bowl of hot tap water for 5 minutes. Take them out, crack them open and make an omelet with them. The texture of the omelet will be much more custard-like.
