Artichoke question?!

Question:

Artichoke question?

Are the stems of an artichoke bad for you to eat?

Answers:
The entire artichoke is edible, it's just that some parts (like the stem, and the fuzzy "choke") aren't too pleasant to eat.

You can treat the stems of artichokes the same way you'd treat broccoli stems. Peel them with a vegetable peeler, if you like, then simmer them until they're tender.

I pretty sure they arent bad for you, but they probably arent the most tasty thing!

=]

They aren't bad per say, but they are very tough and stringy, so you wouldn't want to eat them!

Usually you cut the stem. I dont see a problem since its all the same. How do you cook the artichoke. I stuff mine with bread crumbs and cheese then boil until tender.

they're really stringy so my family never eats them

man, everything on artichoke is game for eating

When I cook artichokes I cut off just the bottom of the stem. After the artichokes are cooked the stem has the same consistency as the inside part under the fuzz. You can eat it.

yes they will kill you!!

Artichokes are weeds so the stems would be kind of fibrous, tough and off flavored. Bad for you ?????
