Is it safe to eat an egg that is cracked when i collect it from my chickens?!

Question:

Is it safe to eat an egg that is cracked when i collect it from my chickens?

I went down to the garden to collect the eggs from my chickens when i noticed that one of them had a crack in it. It is still pretty much in tact and none of the inside has come out. What should i do

Answers:
It is not a good idea to eat that egg.

Salmonella bacteria could be in it.

Trace amounts of chicken poop could have gotten into the crack on the egg, resulting in the salmonella bacteria entering the egg white and/or yolk.

Please remember that a chicken has only one opening in its body down there, its cloaca. It uses its cloaca for breeding, for egg laying, and for pooping and peeing. It sits on eggs, and trace amounts of poop generally adhere to its feathers. If it sits on a cracked egg, poop WILL get on and likely into that egg.

Salmonella poisoning is no fun. http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/s/salmonel...

One egg tossed in the trash is no big deal compared with days upon days of diarrhea, vomiting, and even potential death.

give it the dog

no

if none of the inside has come out it should be safe to eat but i would not risk it.

I wouldn't risk it. As a vegan, you won't catch me eating eggs anyway but as I understand it when the shell is cracked it can become contaminated very quickly as the thin membrane beneath the hard shell is quite porous. Better safe than sorry!

Egg facts dont eat cracked eggs they could be contaminated. never eat eggs with blood or feces on them egg Shel's are porous and if there is something wrong with the chicken then it will be passed on.

I raised chickens years ago and would never eat them if they are cracked. Once the shell is cracked all sorts of fun little Bacteria can get in. As 'sick' as this sounds, I use to take the cracked ones and break them open for the chickens to eat. (kinda recycling) And if you are wondering I never had any of the chickens try to break open their own eggs.

throw it

bin it

make a nice omelet with it , on a nice slice of fresh bread , and a mug of tea.
YES , IT IS SAFE TO EAT YOUR EGG, AT LEAST YOU HAVE FRESH EGGS STRAIGHT FROM THE CHICKEN , HOW I ENVY YOU OF THAT.
by cooking it you would kill any Bactria if any existed , but if the egg is UN broken you are safe.
but if still in doubt , give t to the chickens , in-there meal.

Best not.

no

probably not, because there our tons of germs already on the shell and probably made there way inside
