Flowering plants came to rule the earth, and so then did mammals who require calories to exist. Flowering plants, nuts and seeds are concentrated energy, which equals calories.
Whole grain wheat products, including rices and pastas, as well as nuts and seeds are all concentrated energy foods that are relatively high in calories and low in bad fats, unless of course you top your whole wheat pasta with Alfredo sauce!
Eat fresh fruits, but try to do so separately from the grains and nuts. Fruit eaten by itself tends to digest more quickly and beneficially. It is still sugar and calories, but it is natural sugar and is more easily used by the body for energy.
I have been a skinny guy all my life and always thought I wanted to gain weight. Now that I'm older I'm putting it on only on my stomach, and am no longer interested in gaining any weight, so watch what you wish for!
By all means put on some pounds if you want to, but do it wisely. Remember that high fat foods clog arteries and affect your heart health. Best to put on muscle pounds rather than fat pounds by exercising while you increase your calorie intake. You'll feel and look a lot better.
