How are exotic fruits kept fresh during shipping?!


Question:

How are exotic fruits kept fresh during shipping?

Shipping fruits from South America to Europe (for example) takes probably over a week. how are the fruits kept fresh during shipping?
Are they injected with some chemicals? are they frozen? are they picked while they are green?

Answers:
Carbon Dioxide.... they are stored in warehouses and shipped in trucks that are filled w/ CO2.
