OMG Chicken kievs?!
OMG Chicken kievs?
Just been filling in my online food tracker to discover to my horror that a chicken kiev (1 serving - about 3 square inches) has 650 calories and 32g of fat, some as much as 50g. I mean it's only chicken fried in breadcrumbs and a bit of butter in the middle. Is it really that much?!? Please say they are lying to me!
I dread to think how much my fish and chips contains on a saturday!

Chicken kiev. My dad makes a great one.
And it's true. You can reduce the caloric and fat load a bit with careful ingredient choices but in the end this is not ever going to be a healthy dish. But my goodness is it good.
that kiev must either the most fatty kiev ever or something can't be right
dont worry its only Russian chickens
it's true, 650 calories.
consider going vegetarian
& let the weight fall off naturally.
then reintroduce a small amount of white meat,
once you've hit your ideal weight.
never know you may prefer being a veggie & eating far less fat.
:)
REally what did you expect it is a chicken breast filled with butter!!!! the phrase FILLED WITH BUTTER should have been a give away.
If you want to get that calorie count higher you'll have to wrap the whole thing in pastry (puff would be best), then deep fry the whole thing in dripping.
mmmmmmmmmmm.
Make your own with chicken breast and garlic butter (easy on the butter) and then roll in breadcrumbs and bake in the oven. Or just leave out the butter and breadcrumbs and serve chicken with garlic sauce - much healthier and just as tasty!
Omigod they're selling them at my school as part as the HEALTHY school meals scheme...unbelievable.
