Are potatoes safe to eat if roots (and/or eyes) are growing out of them?!

Question:

Are potatoes safe to eat if roots (and/or eyes) are growing out of them?

Answers:
Sure ok to scoff they're only roots-n-shoots BUT
do not eat the green spuds they are very dodgy some sort of poison - after all they are a member of the deadly nightshade family.

My old motto when in digs was "if in doubt sling it out" and I would eat almost anything lol.

Safe? Yes. Just pick they eyes and sprouts off. However if the potato is soft it may not taste quite as good but you're not going to die from a bad spud!

yes its fine.

Q Is There Poison in Potatoes?
I recently heard on a television program that eating potatoes that have sprouted isn't good for you because of some kind of chemical the sprouts produce. What's the chemical? What's the problem?

The chemical in question is solanine, a toxin that forms in the sprouts and green parts of potatoes. You can avoid it by cutting away sprouts ("eyes") from potatoes and peeling them below any green layer. And don't eat any potatoes that taste bitter; the flavor might indicate the presence of solanine.

Solanine is a significant toxin, but you are unlikely to run into trouble with it in our part of the world, because we grow potato varieties that do not produce much of it. That is not the case in Peru, where potatoes originated, and some older varieties can contain high amounts. A 200-pound person would have to eat two pounds of fully green potatoes in a single day to consume a toxic level of solanine. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, drowsiness, mental confusion, shortness of breath, weak and rapid pulse, and, eventually, respiratory failure.

No id say that if roots (and/or eyes) are growing out of potatoes, that it is not safe to eat them.

yes just peel or cut that piece off and prepare as you normally would.

It depends on how long those roots have been growing on the potatoes. If it was like that for a couple days, they are safe, but if it was a week or two, throw them or grow them.

NO sprouted potatos may be harmful 2 ur body. basically starch in potato (the part which we eat) is reserved food for developing plant from that eye. so, many chemical changes occur in potato once devlopmnt of new plant s started

Get rid of it.
Get another potato without that.
It's safer.
