i saw it today in the book shop it was a thin hard cover book and on the hardcover was printed were cakes.

If you don't call the bookshop today, and explain to them where you saw it, you could go your whole lifetime without knowing.

People who ask for books by color are the pariahs of the literary trade: books stores and libraries. How are we supposed to look that up??

Definitely call and ask, because that's not enough description to find a match. The only other alternative is a very slow one of searching online for cookbooks, looking at pictures, and matching them. You might find that book in the next century that way.
