Do eggs go bad after exp date?!
Do eggs go bad after exp date?
5/21. I have eggs in my fridge that the exp date says 3/30/07, they don't smell bad at all, but I'm terrified for me & my fam to eat them & get sick from eating them.
Answers:
Don't worry about the eggs. you won't get sick unless they were obviously rotten (you can tell by the smell).
Are the eggs cracked or damaged in any way?
Have they been properly stored? I'm assuming yes, since they've been in your refrigerator, especially if they were still in the carton.
Eggs can keep up to 2 months easily. Believe it or Not.
However, if you and your family are freaked out about it... toss them and buy new ones. Eating involves the mind too. Use fresh eggs for peace of mind.
The floating test doesn't mean anything in terms of being rotten or not. I just means there's a bigger air sac in the egg.
I wouldnt eat them if I were you, though you might find that they are alright! Just make sure they dont smell (once you crack them) and do not eat them if they are discolored or curdled!

Eggs will eventually go bad. For sure. They last longer than the expiration date, but you're going on two months. Come on! They're not that expensive, throw em and buy new. Plus is you do cook them you're going to probably make yourself think since you'll be wondering the whole time if they're bad or not.
Oh and the girl below is wrong, wrong, wrong. That has to do with freshness not with whether they're good to eat or not. When you boil eggs you don't necessarily want fresh eggs and that is what the whole float test is for.
Hello:
Here is a sure fire way to tell whether or not your eggs are still fresh for consuming:
Take a glass of water and do the following experiment with your eggs:
If the egg floats DON'T EAT IT,it needs to be thrown away, even if it is before the expiration date!!
If an egg sinks to the bottom it is still good to eat and safe to eat too!! I hope that this has been helpful for you? ;-)
No, usually on dairy products you have 10 days after expiration date, but they do pull it off of shelves on expiration date.
i wouldn't eat it but open one of the eggs up and see if it smells bad.
i think theyll be fine for 2 or 3 weeks over but then throw them out : )
i wouldnt eat them just to be safe. but if you do decide to eat them then just make sure they dont smell once you crack them and do not eat them if they are discolored or cracked
Just because items have expiry dates, this does not been that they have expired, it is law that expiry dates are placed on food items. With eggs, the only way to tell, unless you crack one open, is to fill a pot with water and put the eggs in. The ones that float to the top are no good and the eggs that sink to the bottom are fine! I have had chooks for alot of years and I know what I'm on about.
Please dont eat the eggs.
Yes.
