Do you go by the "sell by" date, or the "best by" date on the milk?!

Question:

Do you go by the "sell by" date, or the "best by" date on the milk?

Answers:
Usually those dates are interchangeable, but I didn't know that they are BOTH present on certain items. When refridgerated, most products (including milk) are still good one week after the "best by" date. Just sniff it; if it has a sour smell then pour it down the sink.

Usually the "Best By" date, because the "Sell By" date just means that the milk should have been SOLD by then, not used by then.

=]

I shouldn't......... But I do and I wont eat.drink what's past it

sell by lol....but if it's past the sell by i will smell it (i always smell it, even if it's not) and if it smells ok i'll drink it

I go by the sell by date. Milk should be good for 7 days after sell date if it is kept COLD. The dairyman at the supper market must get the pallets of dairy products into the walk-in fridge immediately upon arrival at the store. You need to get your groceries home and into the fridge as soon as possible too.

Since we go through about 6 gallons of milk a week, dates don't really factor in, but I do try for the farthest away SELL BY DATE...

u go by the best by date because after u open it is what u go by so open it by the sell by date and drink it by the best by date.
