Can eating too much food kill you?!

Question:

Can eating too much food kill you?

We have an argument going on if the human body can ingest large amounts of food and can it kill you if introduced in extreme amounts. One person thinks that you can eat most anything in any amount and no harm will come but obesity. Where the other thinks that you can overdose on anything if the limit is met for the individuals body.... WHO IS RIGHT

Can food kill you if you eat too much or not

Answers:
too much of anything is bad for you, even water!

it sure it can
oh well that is better than starving:)

Im sure it could mess up your insides somehow, making death a possible outcome, but I am not sure if death can be DIRECTLY caused by over eating. Good question though, sorry I cant help much!

=]

i have on idea

Probably not directly but as a result of being obese yes. Being over weight puts strain on your heart... on top of that you have the increased risk of heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, etc.... This coming from a person who is overweight and should do something about it.

Eatting too much isn't good for you, but neither is eatting to little. That's why they say "healthy weight"...

i ate too much chinese food once and it smelled like i died in the bathroom afterwards.

of course it can =(

When eating your stomach will stretch to its capacity. If you continue to eat your stomach will dispel extra food. (you will throw up). You cannot eat enough food to kill you, unless of course you choke.

Too much food can kill you. Your body at some point cant digest the food as fast as you can eat it, therefore, your system would become overloaded and toxins could infest your bloodstream and kill you.

Your stomach can only expand so far to let in extreme amounts of food. if you go beyond that boundary get ready to die

watch seven
it explains it

It would take quite the massive amount of food to kill you directly, but yes, your stomach lining or intestinal walls can rupture, causing you to have internal bleeding.. and internal lunch. Quite the messy and dangerous situation.

You could also die over time from eating too much continually, such as getting obese or developing a heart condition.

in my opinion eatting a lot and a lot of food can not kill you. as you take in food it must come out. maybe not as fast but also vomiting will soon be a factor if you try to eat to your limits. so i think the only way food can kill you is if it is not prepared properly or if it has been tampered with

Obesity can be fatal in so many different ways. Immediate death from gluttony -- probably not because your body would probably end up rejecting it and you wouldn't keep it down (think the "wafer thin mint" routine from Monte Python, to be extremely graphic). Technically, even a minute amount of food can kill you if you have severe food allergies.

A dog can actually "eat himself to death" if he gorged on dry food and then consumed a large amount of water.

yes because it can back up in your intestines lock boal & it can back up the wrong way & kill you with ecoli...acid reflux & aspirate back in your lungs suffacate...even if you're stomach is over full you can put too much weight on your lungs and harsh breathing. One woman it was on the news she drinked alot of water and it backed up on her in the lungs killed her. she was doing some dumb contest to win a playstation for her kids and now they have the playstation, but lost they're mom not a good trade

A medical professional could give you the exact right answer. However, think about how much the human body can hold without getting sick. When you eat in excess usually people feel sick and may vomit. I think that would happen long before the food could actually kill anyone.

too much is bad for you even too much water

Tycho Brahe died at a dinner (or, rather, started to die) because it was considered extremely rude to excuse onself from the table, at that time.

Then there is the trouble with anti-metabolites, which can cause you to fill with undigested food and die. British pig farmers had some trouble with this some years ago, and is the reason we cook most of our food.

So, yes. It CAN kill you.

Funny that this question came up right now. I am watching the movie "Seven". Right at the beginning the first murder is committed by force feeding someone until he burst and died. So I guess you can die.

Eat whatever the recommended allowance per serving size. What I am saying is eat whatever equals one portion size of a serving size and make sure you don't overeat or over drink anything for any meal.

Yes, you'd probably hurt too much to eat until you die, but there are some psychologists who equate all overeating with the desire to harm one's self.

yes it can kill you if you eat too much. Too much of pretty much anything will kill you. and if you get obese, you can definitely die from that too. People have died from drinking too much water before too. It dilutes the amount of electrolytes in your blood, so that you do not have enough. You can also die from too much salt, which is mostly the cause of dehydration. That is why people drink Gatorade, because it is a source of electrolytes and water. Too much of anything will kill you. You've got to listen to what your body is telling you. If you start feeling like your too full, or sick, there is probably a reason for it. it is pretty much the same for any sort of poison as well. did you know that there are regulations on up to how much lead can be in your food, and how many spider remnants in a sack of flour. Most things wont hurt you in small quantities, but can do damage in large quantities.

Yes. Eating too much of anything is bad. But if you eat to much, you can have diabetes, and die.

no i don't think so just make you sick

TO MUCH OF ANY THING WOULD KILL YOU AFTER A CERTAIN POINT .

it is possible. and believe this:
too much of everything is to bad like,
FOOD,
WATER,
SALT,
ETC.!!!!!!

Haven't you ever heard of exploding humans?

I am assuming you are asking about sudden, immediated death. I'm sure it can. I recall channel surfing and my eye caught one of those gluttony contest. I think it was how many weiners could be eaten in a certain amount of time. They announced the winner, he held up his arms in triumph then took two steps and passed out. He had to be rushed to the hospital. I think he survived but it seems to reason if he had to be rushed to the hospital he could have died.

i remember this kind of question in college bio, and the answer is yes. you can eat until your stomach ruptures, including water, which also upsets the fluid and salt balance in your body and resulting in organ failure. of course, the real question is will our bodies let us eat til our stomach explodes? i guess its like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a toostie pop. we will never know.
