Lunch Wagon ( serious answers only)?!
Lunch Wagon ( serious answers only)?
Hi ya'll, My BF and I want to start a lunch wagon ( aka " Roach Coach" they call it, but I'm looking for different ideas as to what kind of food to offer our customers. I want to offer standard fare, such as hot dogs, chili, etc, but I'm looking for a good idea that is a good quick food that people can walk around with, but different than the standard lunch wagon stuff. any ideas? Thanks!

you gotta keep the old stand-bys of course, and ive heard some great ideas from others but not to practical to walk with...heres a good one you may have heard of, we call it "tacos in a bag", and serve it at parties and other gatherings where people dont sit down and eat,
fry up and drain a large amount of ground beef and season it with taco seasoning packets, keep warm... prepare all your favorite taco toppings(lett, tom. peppers. sourcream, cheese. etc.) keep cold and seperated. go to a wharehouse food sales such as Sams/Costco and purchase various styles of cases of 69 to 99 cent individual serving chips, my favorite is classic doritos, but fritos and tostitos are good as well.
Crunch up the chips in the bag, put a scoop of seasoned ground beef in the bag, fill with customers choice of toppings, serve with a plastic fork and napkins. no mess. little waste. and easy clean-up. always a hit at our football parties.
this might be too much work, but crepes are great. this restaurant near my house makes them 'to go' and they roll them up in kind of a cone shape with wax paper so people can eat them while they're walking than they're delicious! again, it might be too hard to make them in the 'wagon,' but they're different from the norm. good luck!
Mini Subs
Meatball sandwiches
Frito Boats
Tacos
I could think of some things maybe, but the reason there are some standard offerings is that that's where the money is. Maybe you should get your business on a solid footing first before you start experimenting?
How about home made "hot pockets"? Things like stromboli and Cornish Pasties are the progenitors of today's snack food pockets, so they've been in demand for a long time. There are also various other Italian and middle-Eastern pocket pies - meat pies, spinach and feta, etc.
Joycee has some great suggestions.
I would suggest Nachos and cheese. You could even do Nacho supremes similar to Taco Bell. Just add taco meat, refried beans, chili, cheese and people can add onions, hot peppers etc.
Why not just make some chicken or ham and salad sandwiches?? Why does it have to all be hot food?
Maybe baked potatoes if you are going down that line with sourcream, coleslaw and bacon bits
Hi,
How about fried macaroni and cheese, roasted corn on the cob with chipotle butter, BBQ turkey legs, or fresh summer fruit kebabs. You could take something well loved and plentiful within your area of the country and turn it into something new and modern. The thing I have noticed about lunch wagons featured on "The Food Network" is that most of the successful ones have "that one thing" people crave and come back for again and again; something they cannot get anywhere else.
Best of Luck!
