So ive heard. Im not italian but I bet it is. My dad went to Italy and he said that he had the best ice cream there. I'm sure their pizza rocks too. Probably the freshest ingredients one can use in order to make a pizza there.
It does. We returned from Italy in late March for the first time. The pizza is amazing assuming that you go to a local place. It's not as hot as we generally like it. And the gelato is amazing. But it's really rich and filling. I couldn't get a double cone down.
Ice Cream: YES!! their ice cream is called gelato, and it's not as heavy as ours, but so much more tasty...
Pizza: NO!! (well maybe, but I'm partial to my hometown Chicago-style pizza ;)
its made differently, with different ingredients, with different methods, with different machines. for example, pizza in italy uses brick oven, whereas in america we use metal ovens. even the dough, cheese and sauce is different. like most recipes that do come to america, it takes on a fusion style to suit our pallete/ingredients available.
yes after all is it the home of the original pizza and gelato. Made the proper way with out being americanised.

Im sorry, but it doesnt take much for anything to be better than American food. Italian Pizza and Gelati is beautiful - especially Pistachio flavoured gelati
