Why is it hard to find some nice oranges (even this days) in the market?
Seems so hard to get good quality oranges, that makes me feel frustrated after learning that the orange I just bought are the poor quality "spongelike" ones. Can anybody give me some tips on how to get nice oranges in the market? Or do you know of a particular store where I can buy good quality oranges?
Answers:
the reason for this seasons poor quality oranges is the freezing temps california experienced several months ago. It was a harsh blow to Cali's citrus industry, and millions in citrus were lost, and many more suffered harshly.
what you find in your stores now is the standard for the nationwide oranges right now, so I'm sorry to say don't expect to find any better oranges. Some weeks crops may be slightly better than the prior weeks, but there won't be much change this season.
as an orange-lover, I too am saddened by the pitiful excuse for citrus this year, but I'm making do with what our local albertsons provides, which is about the same as anywhere else. Sorry I couldn't bring you better new!
:o)
I guess it all depends on where you live. I live in central California , I'm up to my eyeballs in oranges! Although we just had a late frost that wiped out orange producers all over Cali.
More than likely the oranges you get in your markets are from California, and the orange juice you get comes from Florida.
All the good oranges are exported to other places, and the locals only get the crappy ones. No Joke!
I agree on that tip! It depends where you live! For good quality fruits (or food period) I'll go to a more wealthier neighborhood, cause' it just seems like they have the good stuff! Honestly!
Never buy those bagged oranges either...uhg! Buy the single ones...cause they're bigger and way much richer! They cost more though...but hey...you get what you pay for!
If you can find a Farmer's Market...try there!
For starters, this isn't the right season for citrus fruits. Your best citrus fruits are hitting the markets in late fall and early winter. Secondly, both the Florida and California citrus crops were poor this year. I couldn't tell you where you can get good oranges this time of year. Perhaps just wait for next season's crop.
