Can you get food poisoning from fruit?!

Question:

Can you get food poisoning from fruit?

Answers:
yes.
- I guess you mean edible fruits, as some fruits contain poisons, for example the deadly nightshade has a fruit which is very poisonous

even edible fruits can 'spoil' and may build up toxins.

and some fruits can be bad in large quantities (for example oranges and bananas) causing diahorrea and other stomach problems

Yes if its not fresh and lying around for days you can.

My father in law was once very ill after eating "off" tomatoes,so yes.

Yes, just as vegetables can if contaminated by dirty water or sewage. Also, some fruits produce toxins when rotten that will give you a nasty belly ache and the runs. .

ya it can be very dangerous

yes you can.

yes if they are contaminated or when they get rotten

i dont no but dont they use rotton apples 2 make cider i wouldnt chance it though...

Factors that make a fruit poisonous:

Rotten due to very late consumtion
Contaminated in any way (water, chemicals etc.)
Rotten due to fruit flesh exposed

You certainly can. All fruit should be washed prior to eating. Another source of poisoning is eating salads that may not have been cleaned properly.

Always wash your fruit and vegetables and salad stuff. I got Campylobacter from eating unwashed salad and it was truly the worst thing I have experienced. I ended up in hospital very sick.

yes it can have food poison, wash fruit before eat.

Rarely. Fruit doesn't usually qualify as a potentially hazardous food product. If one did get a food borne illness from fruit the source of the contaminant would be the biological or chemical agents on outside of the fruit
This cross contamination can occur when cutting unwashed whole melons; the blade of the knife picks up the contaminant on the outside of the melon and introduces it to the interior of the melon thereby contaminating it.
