Is baking your own bread ecologically justifiable?!
Is baking your own bread ecologically justifiable?
I love to make my own bread, but I was thinking the other day- first I have to use an electric grinder to make flour from the wheat grain, then I have to use an electric oven to bake it. When I compare this to going to the shop and buying bread which comes in some plastic packaging- you see what I mean?

You are an animal, and like every other animal have the right to an existance. You have the right to meet your own needs. That includes the need for meaningful activity.
As long as you are making rational decisions and aware of the consequenses you are taking responsibility for your behaviour. As long as you are not actively causing damage your existance is not a problem. You don't have to sit in a corner and stop existing.
Stop trying to look for ways to make yourself feel guilty for breathing. If you want to make a change then just buy flour and bake with that.
Of course.
There are no logistics involved; such as delivery, storage or care. This itself requires power, vehicle omissions and fuel usage to get workers to plant, waste from facility it is stored at, and the trees that were taken down to build the facility in mention. Wow, this could be a really long comment....
At home IS ALWAYS the best idea.
not really unless you were growing all the weat and yeast and all the ingrediets seeing how they cost an arm and a leg now a days. do to the fact that you also use a grinder and you heat it in the oven you use a lot of money you might as well by a loaf for cheaper
Wow. It must be very difficult to be so conscientious. Just bake your bread and enjoy! Don't torture yourself with unnecessary guilt. Homebaked bread is worth the miniscule amount of electricity....mmmmmmmm.
I do see exactly what you mean....but...you can't beat the taste and texture of just-out-of-the-oven, smothered in butter, homemade bread...yummmmmmmm
Homemade bread is delicious. And if you want to make it do it.The last thing I worry about is ecology when it comes to feeding my family. The bakery also uses ovens.Whether or not they are electric or gas it makes no difference. You still pay the cost for that homemade taste. If you make your own the plastic issue won't matter.
